Photo Exhibition at La Gacilly Baden

The La Gacilly-Baden Photo Festival, Europe’s largest open-air photo exhibition, highlights global themes, focusing on South America and Brazil for its 2024 edition. Running from June 15 to October 15 in Baden, Austria, the festival spreads across parks, streets, and squares along a seven-kilometer route.

This year, “Days of Fire” is a featured exhibition that addresses the urgent struggle to protect the Amazon Rainforest. Inspired by the upcoming documentary “YANUNI” by filmmaker Richard Ladkani, it portrays the resilience and unity of indigenous communities and environmental defenders. The exhibition offers a journey through powerful images depicting resistance against threats to the Amazon, emphasizing the critical role of indigenous wisdom and collective action.

Richard Ladkani, director of “YANUNI,” will display screen grabs and photographs from his work, enriching the festival’s theme with insights into the Amazon’s environmental and cultural complexities. Esteemed photographer Sebastião Salgado also contributes, adding depth with his evocative images.

Curated by Austrian photographer Lois Lammerhuber, the festival melds art with environmental and sustainability themes, drawing attention to pressing global issues through photography.

“Days of Fire” not only showcases photographs; it is a call to action, underscoring the need for global cooperation in preserving the Amazon Rainforest and supporting environmental defenders.
